Celine van den Boorn examines the complex relationship between man and nature. In Van den Boorn’s work the natural world is carefully organised and mapped, every bird in the sky, every shell on the beach. On close examination the order of nature reveals the friction in the encouner with the order of man.
In her recent work Van den Boorn creates new versions of photographed landscapes by painting away the people that were present. By doing this, the focus shifts from the people to the landscape itself, and a tension occurs between the apparent untouched nature and the still visible traces of human presence.
By erasing people from existing landschapes new images are created that suggest a more ideal world, still caused by human intervention.
